Dear Performing Arts Families,
The LOP, or Loss of Privileges, list can be found on the Golden Valley website (in the Student handbook) and students with excessive unexcused absences or tardies, lower than a 2.0 GPA, or problems with behavior will be placed on the list. This will result in the suspension of certain activities related to both performing arts and Golden Valley as a whole. Students who remain on the LOP list at the end of the semester will not be eligible to audition in the future semesters.
To clarify those situations, below you will find what is affected by LOP and the policy set by our department. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns,
Best,
The Performing Arts Department
Attendance: Students who are on LOP for absences or tardies will not be permitted to perform in extracurricular activities related to band, choir, or theatre, as well as school functions. These activities include Back to School Night/Open House, rallies, dances, games, leaving campus at lunch etc. Students who receive a grade for performing, such as a concert or production, are still permitted to participate in the graded activities. Until the absences or tardies are excused, students will remain on the LOP list. Students must provide an email from their parents stating the absences/tardies have been excused before being allowed to participate in activities again. Without an email from the students' families, students may experience a delay in their removal from the LOP list. Additionally, if students are excessively late or absent from their performing arts classes, they will not be allowed to participate in any extracurricular activities related to band, choir, or theatre, including performances. Student participation will ultimately be at the discretion of their program's director.
G.P.A: Students who are on LOP for a G.P.A. lower than 2.0 will not be permitted to perform in extracurricular activities related to band, choir, or theatre, as well as school functions. These activities include Back to School Night/Open House, rallies, dances, games, leaving campus at
lunch etc. Students will also not be able to participate in performances for their programs, such as a concert or production. An alternative assignment will be given to them to make up the points missed from not being able to perform. This includes a suspension from after school rehearsals and festivals. An evaluation of grades at the 15th week will determine if a student is able to participate again in concerts and productions. If a performance or after school rehearsal falls within weeks 10-14 of the school year and the student is on LOP, they will not be able to be a part of any events outside of school hours within those weeks until their grades improve. An exception to this rule is mainstage theatre, as rehearsal is considered a 7th period class. After school choir and band rehearsals are additional to the school day, which does not permit students on G.P.A LOP to participate. Students must provide proof of G.P.A improvement by the 15th week to be eligible to perform again. Without written proof, students will experience a delay in their removal from the LOP list and will not be able to perform. Student participation will ultimately be at the discretion of their programs director.
Behavior: Students who are on LOP for behavior will not be permitted to perform in extracurricular activities related to band, choir, or theatre, as well as school functions. These activities include Back to School Night/Open House, rallies, dances, games, leaving campus at lunch etc. Students will also not be able to participate in performances for their programs, such as a concert or production. An alternative assignment will be given to them to make up the points missed from not being able to perform. This includes a suspension from after school rehearsals and festivals. An evaluation of behavior at the 15th week will determine if a student is able to participate again in concerts and productions. An exception to this rule is mainstage theatre, as rehearsal is considered a 7th period class. After school choir and band rehearsals are additional to the school day, which does not permit students on LOP for behavior to participate. Students must provide proof of behavior improvement from their assigned Assistant Principal by the 15th week to be eligible to perform again. Without written proof, students will experience a delay in their removal from the LOP list and will not be able to perform. Student participation will ultimately be at the discretion of their programs director.
